In 1996 Drillmec introduced to the land rig market, the first automated hydraulic drilling rig, that allows to operate with a reduced crew, in safe working conditions, with a fast moving and a low environmental impact. After thirteen years of continuous improving Drillmec S.p.A. has signed the 100th HH rig contract. The 100th HH will be supplied at the beginning of next year to ENEL - the National Italian Electricity Company; it will be operating in Larderello area, Tuscany, for geothermal projects. The rig is a fully automatic HH-300 having 272 ton hook load capacity. The standard Drillmec model HH300 was tailored to the Client's needs. The most important features Drillmec designed are: a new trailer, able to move in small and narrow roads, a substructure able to pass over the top of the existing well heads and a new vertical pipe storage and loading system that can accommodate a minimum of 3,500 m of 5" D.P., as required. This new rig is named HH-300 CAR2.
On July 2nd, 2009 a party was organized to celebrate this particular event with more than one hundred people attending. Drillmec invited all its Customers already working with HH rigs and cooperating in continuously improving their features to consistently achieve better performances. Particular attention was given to SAIPEM and ENI, who were the first customers to believe in Drillmec's automatic hydraulic technology. They participated with Drillmec in developing the first unit for the Oil and Gas: the G-125, that after thirteen years is still operating in the Western Desert in Egypt.
The ceremony took place in Drillmec headquarters in Piacenza. During that day, Drillmec Customers had the opportunity to take a tour of the factory, to visit a completely assembled HH-300 rig in the test area and to see the new HH simulator for the HH rig personnel training. The Trevisani family participated the event and thanked engineers and technicians which have worked together making all this possible.
At the end of the day, three models of the 300-HH rig at 1:70 scale were given as a gift to ENEL, ENI and SAIPEM. A crystal paperweight with an HH-300 rig profile engraved inside, was given to all participants.
